Case Study: Temporary Office Network Setup for Business Continuity During Renovation
Client: Confidential Client – Local Municipality
Location: Bay Area, CA – One floor above the existing office
Project Scope
- Temporary workspace setup for 15 users
- Single-floor wireless and wired connectivity
- Phone and printer deployment
- End-user desktop relocation and support
Client Overview
To accommodate an office renovation without disrupting daily operations, the client required a fully functional temporary office setup one floor above their existing workspace. Precision IT Consulting was engaged to quickly provision reliable connectivity and support for approximately 15 users in this new, temporary environment.
The goal was to ensure seamless operation of network services—including Wi-Fi, IP phones, printers, and workstation access—with minimal hardware investment and zero operational downtime.
Project Execution
Initial Site Preparation
Precision IT conducted an on-site assessment of the third-floor space to evaluate available network cabling and signal coverage. Existing Ethernet drops were tested and validated for use. A single available access point was configured, paired with the client’s firewall, and added to the main corporate wireless network. Signal testing confirmed the AP could adequately support up to 30 devices—exceeding the anticipated demand.
Move-In Day Support
Our team returned on the scheduled move-in day to assist with user relocations and equipment setup. This included:
- Workstation Moves: Helping end users reassemble their PC workstations in the new space
- VoIP Phone Setup:
- Ensured wired phones were patched into a dedicated VLAN for voice services
- Worked alongside the phone vendor to configure wireless connectivity for devices unable to connect via Ethernet
- Created a dedicated hidden SSID with a simplified numeric password to streamline phone configuration
- Printer Configuration: Set up and tested printers on both the third-floor temporary office and the newly configured second-floor workspace
- Room-Specific Support: Provided IT setup and verification in private offices and shared spaces.
- Peripheral Setup: Ensured power adapters were sourced or noted for phones without PoE capabilities
Results
- Fully functional temporary office deployed with minimal equipment
- Reliable wireless coverage for all users and devices
- VoIP phones operational on both wired and wireless connections
- Seamless access to shared resources including printers and corporate Wi-Fi
- Minimal disruption during the physical office move
